It’s a new millennium, but Mobile’s signature event—Mardi Gras—is still largely segregated by race. In the home of the original Mardi Gras, young children raising their arms for beads at the downtown parades see that every single float rider is white—with the exception of one society.
The Conde Explorers was founded in 2004 to bring together men and women of all races to celebrate Mardi Gras together. Come join us as we make Mardi Gras history! The Conde Explorers are featured in The Order of Myths, the 2008 award-winning documentary on Mobile’s Mardi Gras.
Our parade rolls on Route A through downtown Mobile two Saturdays before Mardi Gras Day. Check here for dates and times. The ball is held the same night as the parade at the Mobile Convention Center. The organization currently has about a hundred and fifty members and welcomes men and women of all races.
